Before undertaking your training it is important that you are aware of specific criteria you need to meet to ensure you can be successful and find work in the industry.

Skills needed to be successful in the traffic control industry

- Good listening and verbal communication skills to assist people with their needs and communicate clearly with others in the workplace.

- Competent written skills to report risk situations to your supervisor or emergency services as needed

- Be over 18 years of age

- Able to perform the physical role of a Traffic controller (Traffic controllers are required to set up and pack down sites, this includes lifting signage and equipment out of the work truck and into place. You will also need to have the ability to stand on your feet for long durations and often work in remote locations

- Be able to pass random drug and alcohol screenings

This course is designed to provide people who are new to the traffic control industry with the skills needed to start work as a Traffic controller and Traffic implementer on low volume roads.

Prerequisite

You must have completed CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or its equivalent unit.

Coursework and Assessment

This course is a competency-based training program. You will be assessed via a combination of multiple choice questioning, written response assessments, incident reporting, verbal questioning and practical skills demonstration and assessment.

20 hour Work Placement

As part of this course, you will also be required to complete 20 hours of practical experience and at least 3 different types of setups. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component. We will help you secure a work placement with one of our employer partners.

Once completed, a final practical assessment will be required for you to become fully qualified to start your journey as a traffic controller working on category 1 roads.

Certification

After completing your final practical assessment you will receive a Statement of Attainment and be issued with a traffic control card with TC1 and TMI1 listed as a competency.

***Localised Content

If you are planning to work in VIC or SA as a traffic controller or traffic implementer, you will also need to undertake state specific course content. This localised content covers additional guidelines and regulations that are specific to the State you are working in and will be delivered in conjunction with your TTM training.

After completing this state specific training, you will also receive a Statement of Completion to prove you have the skills and knowledge required to work in the jurisdiction.
